Flood Monitoring Using NASA Remote Sensing Data

This webinar focuses on introducing a number of publicly available, near global, web-based flooding tools that use NASA remote sensing data. It first introduces the fundamentals of remote sensing and NASA Earth science modeling data. Included case studies: 

  • Limpopo river flooding in Mozambique (January 23-30, 2013)
  • Inundation over Northeast India resulting from Cyclone Phalin (October 12-18, 2012)
  • Flooding over the Philippines due to Typhoon Haiyan (November 8-12, 2012)
Learning Objectives: 

Attendees will be able to access and analyze data from rainfall-based tools, while taking into account terrain, river basins, landmarks, and socioeconomic data.

No previous remote sensing is required. 


This course is intended for individuals at the local, state and federal level, NGOs, international management agencies and private sector organizations interested in inundation and flood management.
